ITV escapes world cup penalties

ITV has escaped punishment after an “unfortunate error” caused about 1.5 million people to miss England’s opening goal of the World Cup campaign.

Ofcom received 823 complaints when a member of staff pressed the button that queues up advertisements on the channel in the first five minutes of England’s 1-1 draw with the USA.

ITV blamed “human error” and has carried out an operational review to ensure similar incidents do not happen again.
