The Daily, the iPad ‘newspaper’ that Rupert Murdoch has heavily invested in, is to appear in the UK iTunes store within the next few months, according to News Corporation’s chief digital officer Jon Miller.
UK subscribers will receive the same content as the American counterpart, with no firm date set on a UK-specific version of the product. The Guardian claims it has spoken to one company source who said a UK-specific version will appear at an unspecified future date.
Speaking at the Abu Dhabi Media Summit, Miller said the Daily faces a “moment of truth next week”, as it begins to charge users for its daily issues. American readers will be expected to pay 99 cents a week, or $39.99 a year to carry on reading the Daily. Reported figures suggest 5,000 people have already signed up to the yearly subscription.
