The differing fates of Associated Newspapers’ print and online publications have done little to stall a drop in operating profit of £13 million in the past year.
This year’s figure of £76 million, a fall from the previous £89 million, has been blamed on decreasing revenues and the rising cost of printing by the Daily Mail and General Trust.
The figures don’t paint a happy picture for the Daily Mail‘s printed exploits. Circulation revenues have fallen 0.8 per cent for the daily edition, and the Mail on Sunday has suffered a 5.7 per cent drop.
But the Mail‘s online presence continues to grow unabated. Mail Online recorded a 65 per cent increase in revenues according to DMGT, and continues to top traffic figures for all UK newspaper websites by a massive margin.
Chief executive Martin Morgan says the company’s strategy “remains focused on innovation-led growth, talent development and improved operating effectiveness”.
