Footballer sues Twitter in privacy row

Twitter, and a selection of users, are being sued by a footballer after the micro-blogging website leaked details of a superinjunction taken out by the sportsman to cover up an affair with the ex-Big Brother contestant Imogen Thomas.

It is believed that it is the same footballer embroiled in the affair scandal who has had papers served to Twitter. It’s the first legal action against the service and its users.

The lawsuit targets “Twitter Inc and persons unknown”, the latter being the accounts of people who were “responsible for the publication of information on the Twitter accounts”, according to the legal papers.

Both Twitter and the legal firm representing the footballer, Schillings, are remaining tight lipped on the issue.
